Thinking that picking out a toilet training seat would be an easy task, I was shocked at just how many different models are available. Being a parent who has never potty trained anything other than two cats I was in for quite the surprise and was soon overwhelmed with the amount of choices.
In order to help other parents out I decided to put this post together to give a few things to consider when it comes time to buy your little one their own toilet training seat. First off, remember that the style of seat should reflect the needs of the home, the preference of you the parent and most importantly the personality of you child.
Safety first is something we always hear about in life and choosing a toilet training seat is no different, so I will start with this. You want to avoid training seats with seams or crevices in them. Not only can this make cleaning a difficult task but those seams and crevices can be very good a pinching the skin on your child’s bottom. The last thing you want is your child to be afraid of the potty because the last time they sat on potty the potty took a bite out of them.
Another safety factor to consider is stability. You don’t want your little munchkin to be slipping and sliding all over the toilet. Look for a toilet training seat that has a wide base, this helps ensure that the seat remains where is belongs and is not rocking all over.
Handles are another consideration you want to think about. Handles allow your child to hang on if they feel a little scared and provide a nice sense of security. They also can help when it comes time to push that number 2 out
Lastly, remember to consider who will be using the bathroom. Do you have a bathroom that is going to used for your child and your child alone during potty training? If you have a bathroom that is dedicated to the child then you may want to consider a semi-permanent toilet training seat. The Xpress Trainer is a great choice and is available for both round and elongated toilets. Take a look at the Xpress Trainer Round Toilet Training Seat and the Xpress Trainer Elongated Toilet Training Seat.
If the bathroom is shared or the whole family is using the bathroom make sure you get a seat that is easy for others to remove and for you to take in another bathroom if need be. Check out the Potty Scotty Toilet Training Seat for boys and the Potty Patty Toilet Training Seat for girls, kids love the little characters and they are easy for adults to remove.
Hopefully these few consideration will help you when it comes time to choose a toilet training seat for your child. Remember to always keep in the back of your mind when looking at seats is that this is for your child so consider what will help motivate him or her in one of the biggest steps so far in their young lives.
As always, Happy Training! |

Thirty years ago who would have thought that something as simple as choosing a potty training seat could turn into a mind boggling experience. As a parent who is getting ready to enter the world of potty training for the first time in his life I have started to look into the whole process. All I can say is Oh My Gosh! I have read a few things, talked with other parents who have gone through potty training, and started to look online and I have very quickly realized that this is no simple decision.
Potty training seats and chairs are probably the single most important piece of equipment in this whole process and there are literally hundreds of models to choose from. Trying to decide on a seat or chair is actually something that every parent really needs to look at and figure out what will work best for them and their child’s needs because lets face it folks, if the kid hates the potty they aint going to use it!
Every child is different and for that matter so is every parent and when it comes time to get your first potty I have done some research that will hopefully help other parents in making their decision. Below are a few pros and cons for the potty training seat and chair.

There you have it, a few simple yet very important pros and cons to consider when it comes time to get your little one on their way to “going on their own”
